Websites   National Centre for Women and IT

NCWIT is the National Center for Women & Information Technology, a 501(c)(3)* coalition that works to increase diversity in IT and computing. NCWIT believes that greater diversity will create a larger and more competitive workforce, and promote the design of technology that is as broad and innovative as the population it serves. NCWIT focuses on improving diversity across the entire spectrum: K-12 through college education, and on to academic, corporate and entrepreneurial careers.

Websites   Girls and Computing

Although teenage girls are now using computers and the Internet at rates similar to their male peers, they are five times less likely to consider a technology-related career or plan on taking post-secondary technology classes (Melymuka, 2001). The National Center for Women & Information Technology reports that of the SAT takers who intend to major in computer wide format engineering copier and information sciences, the proportion of girls has steadily decreased relative to the proportion of boys, from 20 percent in 2001 to 12 percent in 2006. The total number of these students (boys and girls) has been decreasing since 2001, when it peaked at 73,466.

Websites   Encouraging Women to Study Engineering   Women make up more than half the global population, but hold fewer than a third of the world’s engineering jobs. In the U.S., female students comprise fewer than 15 percent of all Advanced Placement computer science test takers. Even in high-tech Israel, few girls choose computer science. Not only is this a loss to companies like Google and everyone who benefits from a continually developing web; it's also a lost opportunity for girls.   @google @teachesict
Websites   Geek Gurl Diaries free The Geek Gurl Diaries were the brain child of C.A. Philbin, a secondary ICT teacher in East London. They are a collection of video logs about inspirational women in the fields of computing, science, technology and engineering. C.A. Philbin had noticed that the uptake of these subjects by teenage girls in higher education was limited, and that female students would opt for more creative and academic subjects like Art, Dance or Humanities. She wanted to develop a network of individuals who could inspire a new generation to take up more traditionally geeky subjects. The theory being that if students could see how creative some careers are that they would be more inspired.

The Geek Gurl Diaries on YouTube is hosted, written and produced by C.A. Philbin.
