Website Y Making an Avatar - ICT Club Topics   An avatar is a picture or character which you can use to represent yourself online. It is much safer to use an avatar than putting a photo of yourself online, so why not use one of these fun sites instead?   @simonhaughton @teachesict
Website   Victory is Tweet   Tech company advertising gets very WWII in these tech orientated  propaganda posters by designer Aaron Wood. Shows pupils examples of how retro "war propaganda" ideas can be used when advertising modern technology   @teachesict
Website   Panoramas - 360 degree panoramas of the 7 modern wonders

Interactive panoramas is a young media and as such it has for many years been known among enthusiastic photographers and multimedia creators. An interactive VR panorama can not be seen in a book or on a printed image. If you print the panorama it gets a completely different expression.

You can only experience the feeling of being at the place and look around, on a computer. You can only distribute Vr Panoramas by the Internet or on CD.

No other media can give you the feeling of being at the place like VR photos. And the ultimate feeling comes when you view it in Fullscreen

Website Y Creating PhotoStories Free I won't go in to depth describing all of its tools (as I think they're quite straightforward to understand), but I thought that it would be worthwhile me pointing out some tips I shared with my deputy head this week about how to use it effectively:   @simonhaughton @teachesict
Website Y Pixlr - resizing an image Free   Help sheet showing how to resize an image @simonhaughton

Website   Shape Collage - Example use Free Year 3 were treated to a visit by a Roman soldier this morning. They enjoyed learning about life in the Roman army and even had a go at protecting themselves from flying balls by forming a 'tortoise' shape with their shields.   @simonhaughton

Website   Shape Collage - Example use Free Year 1/2 went outside this afternoon to look for signs of Autumn around our school and took pictures of what they saw:   @simonhaughton

Website Y 2Publish+ - creating photo wheels Free

The 'circle' template in 2Publish+ is a wonderful tool for children to use to combine images on a particular theme together in quite an unusual and creative way.

Today, for instance, I worked with our Year 4 class to produce rotational pictures (or 'wheels' as I prefer to call them) containing photos of Canada - a country they are currently studying about as part of a topic on nations of the Commonwealth. To begin, I got them to create a circle split into six segments and to add a label into each one of some place/geographical feature in the country from a list I provided (e.g. Ottawa, Toronto, Rocky Mountains etc.). Having done this, I then showed them how to do an image search on the Internet to find relevant photographs to copy and paste into the different segments. Finally, I let them use the fill tool to colour in the white spaces around each image and to change the font colour of each text box so that their wheels' appearances matched the colours on the Canadian flag

Website Y 2Publish+ - Labelling Maps Free

Having had this idea in the back of my mind for a few months now, I finally decided to try it out today - using 2Publish+ to label a map.

If you've never tried the 'anywhere' template in the software before I do recommend that you have a play with it - it's so intuitive for primary aged children to use and perfectly pitched at their level. It's basically a page where children put a picture (either drawing using the painting tools or imported from a file) and then add text boxes on top of it to label certain features. What's great however is the ease at which these text boxes can then be dragged around to a new position, enlarged/shrunk or even have their font colour changed. There's no messing about having to highlight text before applying an effect and there's no fiddling about trying to select the edges of a text box to move it (like in Word) - it can just be moved by dragging it with the mouse to its new location.
